The author is David Greenberg. He is known to be a very dynamic presenter, and will be emphasizing student writing during his presentation.
He will be here on Monday, January 27th. He will present in the gym from 9:00 – 9:30 (Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grades), and again from 9:40 – 10:25 (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades – hence the longer session). We're finding out if he will stay at school after the second presentation to work further with kids and/or staff.
He will be selling and signing his books, which he will be bringing with him that day. Order forms will go home with every student about 10 days before his visit, and again the day before, so that kids/parents can purchase books from him on the day he is here. After the 27th, we will also make his books available one more time to everyone, in case someone wants to buy a book after seeing him in person – he will also sign those books and send them to us.
We have two of his titles currently in our library. We hope to be buying more. Take a look at one or two for yourself to see what you are in for with his visit – his books are very colorful and fun!
Mrs. Harlow is also on the lookout for artwork to welcome this special guest – find her if you have ideas and want to contribute. It would be awesome to make Mr. Greenberg feel REALLY welcome here at Scott!
Monday Homework:
Math: Finish p. 126. We did this once. Check it again with simplifying. Look at the notes that we took to see how!
Science: Tomorrow, we'll double up to catch up. Plan on doing one section a day!
Language: Tomorrow, we'll finish our web for our personal essay. If you finished one web today, you'll be in good shape.
Wednesday Homework:
Math: Finish page 130. (Only a handful of you did this last night!)
Science: Today, we practiced taking notes and summarizing an informational passage. Here's a sample of what we did so far.
Math Videos:
Here are some videos for you to review/preview:
Cold morning at school. (This has nothing to do with fractions; I just like the picture.) |
- Fractions review. Everything you need to know to start learning fractions in fifth grade.
- Adding unlike fractions. (Hint: Don't add the denominators!)
- Division three ways. You need to understand this to reduce fractions!
- Order of Operations. Otherwise known as PEMDAS. Not fractions, but you still need to know it! This video also includes pre-algebra skills!
- Order of Operations... without the algebra.
- Benchmark fractions. Use these to estimate!
Hand Looms!
